Britain’s Oliver Bennett will race in the FIA World Rallycross Championship this year, driving a Mini Cooper S Supercar that was revealed at the Autosport International Show in the UK.
Despite 2018 being only his second season in rallycross, Bennett has already raced in a World RX event, competing in his home round at Lydden Hill last year driving a Ford Fiesta. The British Rallycross Championship podium finisher also plans to race in his home round this season, at the brand new Silverstone rallycross circuit in his new Mini. “We’re putting a campaign together to do all of the European based World RX rounds, with the addition of the race in the USA. The six events that we are committed to already are my favourite picks, UK (Silverstone), Sweden (Holjes), France (Loheac), Norway (Hell), Barcelona and the USA. We are pushing a sponsorship campaign to see if we can acquire the remaining funds to compete full time in World RX too,” said Bennett.
The new Mini is being built by UK team Simpsons Motorsport, with engineering support from Liam Doran’s LD Motorsports team. “We chose this car firstly because it is British, and we wanted to put an all British team together. Secondly, because of our own media creation appetite and the Mini Cooper’s demographic being aligned with our XITE Racing branding, we thought it was a perfect fit. The chassis base is even more of a perfect fit than we could have imagined.”
